Lilykit's Adventure- 1: A New Home

The rain poured down, hard, but the cats still trudged on, knowing they would be out of the rain as soon as they found a suitable home. They had left at dawn. Now, it was nearly dusk, and most of the cats had only gotten a few bites of food from a scrawny squirrel Goldenfur and Foxheart had found beside the Thunderpath. They had never been so hungry before, and their empty bellies growled continuously.

Finally, Silverstar, their leader, meowed, "We'll stay here for now."

Sandpelt stumbled into the old train cabin and flopped down on her side. Lilykit and Rosekit, her kits, immediately pressed their soaked pelts against hers. Graynose, their father, purred weakly, but right then, he saw a small movement. A pair of beady eyes peered out from under the table at the bedraggled cats.

Quick as a flash, Graynose sprang into a hunting crouch. The other cats watched him curiously as he crept forward slowly. Graynose suddenly sprang forward, snapping the neck the belonged to the eyes in one clean bite.

It was a rat, and it was a big one.

Graynose took the rat to Sandpelt, who in turn beckoned to the other cats. "Come and share! There's enough for all of us!"

Moonflower padded over gratefully, and was closely followed by Angelflame. Foxheart came next, cautiously, but Goldenfur and Silverstar stayed behind. Silverstar had just spotted another rat, and they were working together as a team to capture it, since it already knew they were stalking it.

Right when the rat was looking away towards the sound of the other cats' delighted purrs as they gobbled up it's fellow rat, Goldenfur leaped. Startled, it immediately ran the other way. Unfortunately for the rat, Silverstar was waiting there, and the rat ran right into her paws, so the small band had another rat to eat.

They finally figured out that the old train was infested with rats, so Foxheart, Graynose, Goldenfur, and Silverstar, the strongest of them all, began capturing rat after rat, until they had a nice big pile of bodies in the middle of the room.

Soon, Silverstar declared, "In this train, food is plentiful, and there is good shelter. We shall stay here forever!"

The cats began cheering, for they had had to move their shelter every day after they were driven out of their old territory. Many cats died after that, and soon, it was a challenge to even maintain a small group! Eventually, they separated, and all went their separate ways as kittypets, rogues, and loners. This group of rogues were very tired of moving every day due to various problems. Twolegs, dogs, other rogues and loners, or having no good food or shelter. Finally, they had a real home.

Little did they know about a new problem that would spring up just a couple moons later...
