Lilykit's Adventure- 2: Strange Food
Lilykit awoke to the sound of a deep rumbling. This was no surprise, for it had happened every day, due to the huge storm that had started the last moon. The rain and thunder had never let up. But today, the warmth of her mother was gone, and her sister was also mewling loudly, and pitifully.
Frightened, Lilykit lay still as her eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness.
She saw the adult cats clustered together, deep in conversation. Now curious, Lilykit stood up silently, and a floorboard creaked. She froze, but the other cats were too engulfed in their conversation to notice. Moving again, Lilykit gestured with her tail, and willed Rosekit to follow her. Rosekit obliged, and the two sisters crept towards the adults. As they got closer, the two caught snatches of the conversation.
"Must be...same as always," Lilykit heard from Angelflame, who seemed to be trying to convince herself of something.
"...can't be... no humidity in the air," argued Foxheart, and Angelflame stepped back, shaking her head.
Suddenly, a loud clang vibrated through the train, and the floor tilted.
"Mreeow!" squealed Rosekit, and scrambled towards her mother, with Lilykit following closely behind. Sandpelt picked up Rosekit by her scruff and ushered Lilykit into the cluster of adult with her paws. There, they huddled together fearfully, when a bright light flooded the room. The group of cats immediately sprang into a defensive position, with the kits and the weak hidden behind an old couch, and the others hidden under chairs and tables, ready to attack.
A couple hisses later, Lilykit heard, "Well! A couple of fighting cats!" uttered in a strange tongue, and the light disappeared.
Just as she began to relax, it came back again. She peered under the couch and gave a gasp of surprise. Laying in the middle of the floor was a couple of cans, and a creature was opening them! Under closer inspection, Lilykit realized that the creature was a human! And the aroma coming from the cans...oh, it was just too good to descibe, for it smelled even better than a fresh-killed peasant.
"Can we eat that?" she hissed to Rosekit, who asked Angelflame, who just shrugged, silently.
By this time, the human had left.
Silverstar meowed, "I shall try it first," and crept up to take a small, cautious bite. Instantly, her eyes lit up. "Mmm!" she exclaimed. "This is good! Come and share!"
Soon, all of the cats were clustered around the food, taking great, big bites at a time.

In the following weeks, the human came repeatedly, each time with food. The adult cats started to have to remind themselves to hunt, for the canned food was so easy to come by. Silverstar's greatest fear was that her band of rogues would forget how to hunt. The idea of laying around sharing tongues and chatting all day like a kittypet was very tempting for her too, but every time, she reminded herself that she would never become a kittypet.
Meanwhile, the rumbling continued at day and ceased at night, and the senior cats that went out to hunt for squirrels, mice, birds, and other prey reported that there seemed to be work going on in the train cabin that was linked to theirs.
They had decided to name the human, a woman, Jenny.
Otherwise, everything was completely normal, and the storm had finally ceased.
