HeatherClan Book- Chapter 2
Chapter 2: StarClan's Gone!
It was nearly dusk when Willlowpaw and Fernpaw finished their duties.
Altogether, they had caught a sparrow, two crows, three voles, a pheasant, and a rabbit.
Just after they finished eating, Willowpaw and Fernpaw heard a wail of despair. Spottedleaf and Jayfeather were returning from the Moonpool!
Silverstar and Goldenfur rushed over to the two cats.
"What's the matter?" asked Silverstar.
"Starclan has abandoned us!" wailed Spottedleaf.
"Wh...what?" spluttered Goldenfur. "How? Why?"
"I don't know, but we have to learn to live on our own," replied Jayfeather, looking a little shook up, himself.
"We must tell the Clan," decided Silverstar.
She jumped onto the Highrock and yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey come and join me at the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"
At once, all the warriors and apprentices streamed out of their dens into the clearing.
"What is it, Silverstar?" asked Nighfall.
"Spottedleaf and Jayfeather have just gotten back from the Moontree," began Silverstar hesitantly. "And they found out that StarClan wasn't answering their calls."
At once, chaos erupted.
"What?" exclaimed Moonflower. "You're wrong! StarClan cannot leave us!"
"You're kidding!" meowed Windflight, shaking his head.
"What will we do without them?" asked Sparklelight.
"How will medicine cats receive signs?" added Minnowpaw.
"StarClan is still here," meowed Gracepelt calmly. "They have to watch over us!"
"Maybe they just disappeared for a while," suggested Mistypaw timidly. "Maybe they'll come back."
"But they would have sent a sign, wouldn't they?" argued Berrypaw. "They wouldn't have just abandoned us!"
"Well, that's exactly what they did!" Dovepaw glared at him.
"Yeah," agreed Fernpaw. Willowpaw nodded vigorously beside her.
"Are you saying that I'm wrong?" Berrypaw stood up defiantly.
"Be quiet!" roared Cougarblaze. "Let Silverstar speak!"
"Why would I lie to you about this?" Silverstar was enraged.
"Silverstar is telling the truth," meowed Spottedleaf defeatedly.
"We will discuss this at the gathering tonight," decided Silverstar. "Until then, no more arguing!"
Her gaze lingered over Dovepaw and Berrypaw, then jumped down from the Highrock and padded into her den.
"Silverstar is right," meowed Goldenfur wearily. "But now we must all rest."
