When Star awoke, she knew something was different immediately. She was warm! Looking down her muzzle, she realized she had fur! Star was now a beautiful tortoiseshell she-cat.
All across the village, cats were waking up and rejoicing at their new fur. But Star only had one thought. When will my kits be returning home?
Rakira, who became a pure white she-cat, had organized a celebration in the village square. But how could they celebrate without their saviors?
It was nearly dusk when Lyra and Thunder arrived. They were greeted with licks and purrs. At near midnight, Rakira called for silence.
“We have a special guest,” she announced. “For the return of our heros. Let us welcome Bast, our goddess!” Cheers broke out across the square as Bast emerged from the heavens, riding a soft cloud and dressed in elegant black fur.
She landed in front of Lyra and Thunder and greeted them with a lick on the top of their heads. “Welcome back, my heros,” she purred. “I can grant you each one wish, anything.”
Lyra and Thunder glanced at each other.
<You go first,> Lyra suggested.
Thunder stepped forward bravely. “I want to see Karen again.”
Lyra looked surprised. “Me too,” she agreed.
“So be it,” meowed Bast, and a quick figure leaped from cloud to cloud to land in front of the littermates.
“Karen!” Thunder gasped.
Karen laughed. “Good to see you,” she rumbled.
“I’m so sorry,” Lyra was near tears. “I shouldn’t have left those weapons on the floor.”
“I’m fine.” Karen looked like she was smiling. “I saw what you did. I couldn’t have done better. Goodbye, little ones. You have many adventures yet to go on.”
“Goodbye, Karen,” Lyra and Thunder chorused, and Karen bounded back into the heavens.
It was a great end to a very long day, thought Lyra as she and her brother settled down for a well deserved nap.
Wow, lot of stories going on! Keep up the pace!
